Search and Rescue Units

Search and Rescue Units

In addition to ZAKA’s work to honor the deceased, the volunteer organization has evolved over the years to offer specialized search and rescue units, available 24/7, throughout the country, both on land and at sea.

These search and rescue capabilities have significantly enhanced the organization’s efficiency, strengthened its cooperation with national emergency and rescue services, and—most importantly—saved countless lives through quick and professional responses with the appropriate equipment.

Thanks to the specialized structure and deployment of the units, hundreds of ZAKA volunteers for missing persons searches can be called and deployed in a short time, in large concentrations—trained volunteers who carry all the necessary equipment for a missing persons search.

This national network of volunteers, dedicated to searching for and rescuing missing persons, includes specialized units such as the Diving Unit, the Jet-Ski Unit, the Jeep Unit, and the K9 Unit.

Additionally, the Climbing and Rappelling Unit consists of highly fit volunteers with medical knowledge, who have undergone specialized training in rappelling to provide immediate rescue responses during natural and urban disasters.

The ZAKA Home Front Command Unit, another specialized search and rescue unit, collaborates with the IDF Home Front Command during massive disasters and incidents on the home front that require a large number of professional rescuers.

Formed as a result of lessons learned from the Second Lebanon War, this unit includes hundreds of certified ZAKA rescuers who have received specialized training from the IDF Home Front Command.

The unit undergoes regular annual training, in collaboration with the IDF Home Front Command, to ensure a high level of training and skills. The unit has worked closely with the IDF during mass incidents and building collapses in Israel and abroad, both in times of war and in peacetime.
