A moment of truth - Identifying victims of a disaster
The ZAKA Minority Unit is composed of members from Israel’s minority communities, representing various groups across the country, including Druze from the north and Bedouins from the south. Other communities represented in the unit include Circassians, Christians, and Muslims. The training course is prepared and delivered in close collaboration with the relevant religious and secular leaders.
Community leaders have expressed their satisfaction with this initiative, which allows the ZAKA Minority Unit to handle the deceased in accordance with each community’s religious laws and customs concerning funeral rites.
The Bible declares that “Man was created in the image of God.” Each person has been created in God’s image. This is the creed of ZAKA: to respect every individual for who they are, to educate, and to convey messages and values of peace through volunteering.
ZAKA aims to include more and more people in its circles of activity and volunteering by establishing volunteer units within all ethnic groups across Israel. The goal is to assist and support each person as they are, without distinction of religion, race, or gender. With the belief that the more people are engaged in volunteering and activity, the more divisions will naturally fall away, life will be perceived differently, and people will become better, unified, and supportive. The spirit of volunteering unites and brings people together, changes their outlook on life, and makes them better.
